Fixing Mushroom to Live Rock

Hi, I have been trying to attach a green mushroom coral i just picked up to one of my rocks for about a week now using super glue gel. It has worked for various amounts of time, but due to the little guy's mucous production he's always floated off in about 24 hours.

I don't have any LR rubble to work with, and due to the size of the rock where i want the shroom I can't use a rubber band. I have heard something about fixing it to a rock with a toothpick, but I wanted to ask here before I stabbed the little guy...

Any other methods or opinions?

AHHH !!!!! NO STABBING !!!

ok this is what "I" do:
1.Get a small container just large enough to hold the shroom while fully inflated (fullsize if you know roughly how big it gets)

2.Drill about 100 holes (give or take) into it to insure proper water movement.

3.Place either corse sand in the bottom of the cup or live rock crumbles

4. place the cup in the tank in not in direct light and in easy going current. you wanter water to circulate but you don't want the shroom bouncen around like super ball.

5. Place bridal mesh over the top of the cup and secure it down with a rubber band. Cut up some pany hose if you not has bridal mesh.

Easy ain't it
So now you should have a shroom in a cup with somthing for it to stick to naturally covered with some type of easy flow cloth. Give it about 5-6 days then check it and make sure it's still clean inside the cup and shroom looking good.
IF it decides to stick to the cup (I use the galdware ones) then simpley cut the peice of cup it's attached to and glue the little peice with shroom attached to the rock and put it back in. Make sure you keep an eye on it and keep it in low flow until it decides it likes it's new home and opens up all the way.

I've had shrooms stay in there cups for over a month before sticking properly if it goes that long you have to empty it out ever so often to make sure it not get sick and die.

Questions please ask I can go into greater details if need be.

I've been using this method for my fragged mushrooms and have yet to have them attach.

I'm using crushed coral with the same setup.

It's been about 5 days and no luck, I'm still going to wait and adjust the flow area.

Any other tips for this method?

Hey Jon! Fancy meeting you in a softie thread ;)

I have tried to fix green fuzzy mushrooms to rocks with little success. Those little guys are going to float around until they find someplace they like. Then they'll fix down. They'll find a place with light access, which generally means you'll be able to see them.

All that being said, I read Jun77's thread, and it seems reasonable, if you have the space to make it work.

I just get the nylon mesh from an onion bag and wrap it around the rock and mushroom. In 10 days or so the mushroom is attached. You could do this to a piece of rubble then epoxy it to a larger rock. Bridal veil apparently works, but I didn't have any around and the nylon mesh worked for me. Works for rics, too.

Have you tried sewing them onto the rock?

use a needle and thread to pierce through the thin part of the shroom, not the mouth, or foot, a couple of times, then tie the thread around the rock,

that should hold the shroom until the foot can attach.

What I did recently, was to take the loose shroom along with some LR rubble, and just put them in a fish net, and let it float at the top of the tank. The shroom attached in a day. HTH

Heres a pic of what I mean:

I just use a small glass jar (like a jelly jar) filled half way with coral rubble, add the mushroom, and place it in a low current area. The jar is tall enough so I don't need to use mesh to keep the mushroom from drifting away.

Once the mushroom has attached to some rubble, then I glue the rubble to the rock I want the mushroom to grow on.

Its been working really well for me.

I kept having the same problem so I pulled the piece of rock I wanted it to attach to out of the tank & put it in a 1.5g tank I have filled with water from the display.

I used a clamp on fixture & a compact flo bulb on the same light schedule as my tank & used a Maxi Jet 404 for "circulation."

After about a week it had attached to the rock.

My 2nd shroom was attached to a piece of rock. I ended up pulling the rock out, drying off one spot, putting some silicone in the hole, & then putting the piece of rock into the hole. After 2 minutes it was strong enough to keep the shroom from being pulled out.

Now they're both on the same rock & doing very well.

You didn't read what I said very well I said somtimes it's up to a month for the shroom to attach. All the means I've read so far are all good ways of attaching it's all in how you want to do it. Just make sure what ever method you use that the container or net stay clean and clear.

HEY OWEN !!!

For my first shroom I just used a dime sized amount of super glue gel and glued the "foot" to a flat piece of LR rubble outside of the tank and held it for a minute before putting him back into the tank. That was yesterday and he is still kind of shriveled up. I only got him two days ago though. I guess he is still adjusting? I was told it would be ok to glue him like I did. I couldn't get him to stay anywhere and it could not have been healthy for him to be bouncing around my tank.

Well that same mushroom has gotten out of my glue, I guess I am going to try gluing him one more time. Maybe let it set a minute longer outside of the tank?

I am pretty sure I solved my problem! I used a gauze pad 2" by 2" and unfolded it. I just wrapped it loosely around my rubble and tucked it under the rock. Hopefully this will just keep the mushroom close enough to the rock that it will attach.
