flame hawk????

ok i have a 26 mixxed reef the tank will be a year old in less then a week. i was looking to buy myshelf a little present for it. the fish that got my into this hobby is the longnose hawk. well i know they eat shrimps, and i have a pistol shrimp that is about an inch bigger then the hawk. i would relly like one but i though i would ask here first

Yes they do eat shrimp, no maybe about it. In a 26, your shrimp will be gone as soon as the hawk gets big enough to catch it. Cool fish though. You might trade in the shrimp, or just let 'em become hawk food eventually.

also what about clams, i have one and im a littlw worried about it picking on the mantel

i wouldnt do it.. but you never know people do things all the time that you would think wouldnt work... worst case you loose the shrimp if you get your pistol with a goby combo your prob better off..

which kind derasa,maxima,sqamosa...you do have good/strong lighting right?

The only problem with clams is that he may decode to perch on it. Won't harm it though.

I wouldn't see a problem with the clam, but it will eat your shrimp and any hermit crabs you have.

ok well i dont have any hermits, but i have a TON of LR. like 40 or 50 pounds i dont see the shrimp that much, he is never out and about unless im feeding.

Your shrimp will get eaten. There is no doubt. Maybe you could return the shrimp for credit to buy your hawkfish.

I have had a flame hawk and a pistol together for almost a year, I see him all the time. It helps to have the yellow watchman goby, without him the pistol would be a gonner! I see the flame hawk chase pepermint shrimp but, never a hermit crab.

I don't think it's worth the risk. Why not see if someone local will take your shrimp/goby combo? They deserve a happy home, not to be menaced by a predatory fish. Just my opinion.

ya i dident get him. but i got a bar goby, their relly cool i have wanted one for a while

Awesome choice! I love Bar Gobies. I have one and he's probably my favorite fish. Tons of personality, and a pretty active swimmer. Plus they look awesome. Lots of people find them bland but when you get up close their colors are actually quite beautiful.
