floating sand??

I removed some of my crushed coral days ago and put in about 3 lbs of dead sand. It looks great but everyday I have to skim off the top because it keeps coming up. No I didnt wash the sand first I just poured it in when the tank was 1/2 full of water. Not a lot comes up but its everyday. Maybe some air bubbles are trapped inside???

Should've washed it first. I'm not sure why some grains do that, but its always happened for me as well like that. But if you clean it really good w/the hose or whatever, it will be fine.

Just for the record, live sand doesn't need to be washed right? I started out with 60lbs live sand.

no, it doesnt. Its already in water and established, so washing it would just kill it. Just dry sand does to get rid of the dust.
