Floating zoanthids!?

Yesterday, I found a polyp from my first zoanthid colony floating around my tank? Opened! Is this common? I glued it down to a small piece of rock and it's still open! The orginal colony looks good, all polyps are open. Should I worry?

I've never heard about that! Not floating (at the surface, I assume)!
If you glued and it looks fine I don't think you should worry.

Yep, happens every once and a while but more common with large colonies. Nothing to worry about, consider the coral fragged :) just stick on a rock or plug, grow it out some more and trade for some more corals.

They normally "get released" from the colony and go around the tank to set on the bottom somewhere, not at the surface. Yes, that's normal. I think it's a type of reproduction strategy.
There is also what I think is a disease that takes place doing that normally to the whole colony. That happens most of the time with PEs, very sad!! But when only a polyp or two happens, they are from large colonies.

Guess that make sense. It's not a big colony but their is no more room on that rockwnd the top one is the polyp that came lose! Thanks

Had this happen to me last week, then I realized one of my new frag plugs had nothing on it... Unfortunately in my attempt to catch the polyp it blew into a giant pukani boulder.. Fail!
