Tampa, Florida - The Florida Aquarium will open Aquariumania Crazy about Fish Tanks this weekend. This unique exhibit explores the world of aquariums ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ the science, art, history, business, fun and fascination of keeping fish in tanks. The exhibit walks through the home of an "aquariumaniac" ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ someone who is crazy about fish and get some ideas on how to create your own home aquarium.

The purpose of this exhibit is to get people excited about the hobby of home aquariums, see how easy it can be and hopefully purchase their own home aquariums

I'm curious about your impressions of the concept. Will it work? Does anyone have any personal experiences of being inspired or inspiring others by their tanks? I'm interested in the reef side of things, but I'm also curious about the guppy & goldfish side of the spectrum as well.

I plan on going in the next week or two. Some people for the Tampa Bay Reef Club were talking of going this week end. I'll post my thoughts and impressions :D

Institutions like the FL Aquarium is why I most miss Tampa. That and going to Bucs and Lightning Games. I think thats what kind of makes Rochester a "Waterstop" town. Other than the Eastman House we really have no big municipal sponsored draw...Dont get me wrong I love the Seneca Park Zoo but to say that it is world class is a bit much. There are some nice things to do in Roch but for the most part when my family and I are looking for something to do we venture to other locations. Rochester needs something like the FL or ATL aquarium to draw some interest. I would really like to have a great place like that to volunteer at and help spread knowledge about the ocean.

I will have my sister go to the aquarium and take some pics that I can post if anybody is iterested.

Scott,

I'd definately like to see some pics.

Brandon,
It's possible to do this hobby "on the cheap" especially on the freshwater side of the things an amazing diversity of things can be accomplished with little more than a 10 gallon. The marine side is a bit more expensive, but a 29 gallon fowlr isn't all that expensive to set up and maintain and it'll definately cost less than a ps3.
