The genus of Pterois has been banned, which consists of Volitan, Russel's, Radiata lions, and a few others. Fu Man Chus, Dwarf Fuzzys, and Zebras will all still be okay.
Yea FL has banned them and also opened a kill on site order to all divers and fisherman. I haven't speared any yet but they are supposed to taste amazing. Maybe when the population diminishes offshore in the Gulf Coast they may let LFS Carey a limited amount. The problem is they get too big for tanks. Then are dumped in the bay and gulf. Where there are no predators that eat them. Not fu man chu's on the big part. Much luck to you on finding your fish! They are pretty cool looking.
We can still collect them from local waters, but we can not import them. For species of this genus that aren't in our water, like Radiata lions, we can't get here anymore, but we can get Volitans from Florida just fine, but nowhere else.
I'm normally the last to agree to more laws but as a gulf diver i agree with this. Can't go on a dive past 100 feet without them covering it up, getting to be a problem around here in a hurry so something is needed.
That said, we will never put them back in the box, they are a local now no question, my bud shot one on a 35 foot wreck just 3 miles off the coast of clearwater. :worried:
