Florida ricordia dropping buds?

I've never heard of it but do florida ric's drop full buds? I know they will move and leave a piece that grows into a bud but do they drop full buds with mouths and polyps?

As some of you may know from my pics, i have a pretty good amount of rics. When i was moving some rocks around i found 2 of these guys. This 1 i glued down the other blew away god know where,

I wondered where he could have come from since he is so small and was behind my rocks away from any other rics. He is literally smaller than a bb. It seemed like he had dropped from somewhere and floated back there


Today, i'm looking at some of my other rics and see this

The thing i'm talking about is right above the mouth. It's hard to tell in the pic but unless i'm crazy, it's a baby ric. I'm not positive but moving it with a small baster, i'm 99% sure there is a mouth in there surronded by about 5 little polyps!


Has anyone else seen or heard of this?

It kind of looks like what one of my florida rics is doing. You can see a picture of it in the thread I started. It looks like a small ric attached inside of another ric. And it is located close to the mouth of the bigger ric.

I agree it looks like a baby ric in there! I also saw cristi's thread yesterday and thought of it as soon as i seen your pic, i agree it looks the same. How cool is that if they spit little babies off into the water column, very interesting stuff...

Thanks for the compliment currentking! My tank is 3 times bigger than yours though so i have an unfair advantage,lol. It'll be scary to see yours when you get one my size or bigger!

The "bud" seems to be even bigger today and i still am 99% sure it is a baby bud about to drop. I'm not exactly a mushroom expert but i have never heard of them reproducing this way.

Anyone know who the resident mushroom "experts" are on here? I'd like to try and get their attention and see if they have ever heard or seen this.

My camera can't really capture it but this "thing" definitely has a mouth now that you can clearly see. I'm 100% convinced now that this is a "bud" and is gonna drop sometime pretty soon!

I just hope that i can see it happen or at least find it after it falls!

I'm still hoping someone in the know can chime in and sasy wether or not they have ever seen or heard of this

I have had some orange Rics that have dropped buds in my tank.

Only like two three inches from main colony. Maby they were medusa's that settled down.
