does anyone know of any good places to snorkel in the tampa bay area like where there are lots of fish and corals

It might be better going out past boca grande, captiva, and that chain of islands to get out into the gulf. You could probably contact a dive shop on one of these islands that could take you out. Good luck.

I've just came back from a trip to florida and went snorkeling to the John Pennenkamp state park ar Key largo.
The reef is awesome! and pretty shallow.. in fact there were parts where the corals were at about 1 1/2 feet from surface.
Saw a few queen angelfishes and lots of zoanthus, brain corals, sea fans, anemones, purlple tangs. I trully recommend it!
Try to catch the noon trip to see the corals fully opened
Good luck

In the Tampa area, you would have to get offshore in deeper water to see corals. Beyond snorkleing depths. I was out yesterday and it was nice. 89 degree water fairly clear maybe 30' vis, lots of coral, fish and inverts. There are some near shore reefs in Sarasota, but the coral and tropical fish is not as thick as offshore.

ya i actually just went snorkeling in venice it was ok not much coral or fish but tons of sandollars and sharks teeth

Did you go with a snorkel tour or just on your own?
