flow for 16 gallon nuvo

i have a 16 nuvo that im doing as an sps tank (mostly acro's) i have a 4 bulb t5 fixture over it, planning on weekly 10% water changes plus dosing, so far i have 3 koralia 425 gph powerheads in it, think that is enough to maintain and keep good flow for acros?

Might be one too many but time will tell. In a small tank the challenge is aiming them to get flow but not beat up the coral. You will learn to be creative and use the "backboard" so to speak.

I think if you plan on purchasing 3 Koalia 425gph at roughly 40 bucks a pop, not including timers. Maybe a Vortech MP10 at 239.00 would be a better long term buy.

I'm in the process of putting together a Nuvo 16 myself and I'm upgrading the return pump with a maxi-jet 900 and adding a MP10 for complete water movement. Are you planning on purchasing the SpinStream as well, those go for 30.00 a pop as well so you kind of see how the pricing goes upward with each added item, not including power costs.

I would say spend on the right tools now, especially if you are investing in SPS.

smy: you do make a good point on the MP10, I have a 15" cube (12g) and two koralia 425s was maybe medium flow if you used them to do a rotational flow around the glass. Plus they take up quite a bit of real estate since it's hard to place them. I've been thinking about getting one because the placement is pretty advantageous.

I've worked on a bunch of nano tanks (Innovative, Biocube, Cardiff/Solana) and I've always hated trying to incorporate powerheads like Tunzes and Koralias. They're just too big and it's way too easy to make sand piles. If an MP10 fits your budget, go that route and don't look back.

Mp10! I have a 14 biocube, and had 2 425s plus the return. Mp10 is a lot more flow, its wide, it's random, and the in tank footprint is sooooooo much smaller than the 2 koralias. FWIW, I have mine at like 40% on reef crest. Anymore, and my tank would turn into soup!
