I'm out in Nashville and swung by a lfs. In their frag tank they a bright green flower pot coral. I thought it was awesome so I picked it up.
Any helpful advice on keeping them successfully?
Goniopora's are a tough coral to keep, they are harvested in Murky, Nutrient Rich Water.Quite a bit of Spot Feeding will be required, along with Medium Light, and Medium Flow.
Thanks guys! I already spot feed most of my corals so its not going to be new. I was curious about placement and frequency of feeding PLUS what is the best food? Ive been using phytochrome, phytogold and reefsnow. All my corals are doing good, but not getting bigger.
LPS need feedings of meaty foods such as mysis and brine along with other meaty foods small pieces of krill and silver sides, phyto and reefsnow are more for smaller mouthed corals like sps along with food for clams feather dusters and other filter feeders , placement of gonioporia would be medium lighting and medium waterflow for where i have had them kept will do fine in higer flow and lighting once aclimated to it
Good luck with it. The green ones are notorious for being a "rent a coral." They are incredibly hard to keep even for the most experienced reef keeper. They rarely last more than a year in the home aquarium. I have two gonis at the moment and both are red. They are different species and look very different. One (which I believe to be Goniopora stutchburyi has done very well and has fully encrusted the large frag disk. The other (I have no idea of the species) has not done so well. I moved it a few days ago and it has not opened since. Here are a few articles that you should read:
