fluidized bed filter

What are the main advantages of running a fluidized bed filter.
Would one rune the filter in addition to your skimmer or instead of.

Hi from what I understand a fuidized bed filiter is nothing more then a bio filiter. It would not be in place of your skimmer. I had one once and when the power shut off the sand got all compacted and I had to throw it out. IMo I would nver use one and see no point if you have live rock or another type of bio filiter in place.
