Fml!!!

So I changed out my sump today to a acrylic one....
I was all excited about it until I had it all setup and running.
I accidentally unpluged my return pump and went down into the basement.
To my surprise the new sump is not large enough to hold all the water that backflows from the tank into it.....so needless to say I had a tsunami in my living room.
Ready to just sell EVERYTHING!

holy holy holy cow.....NO WAY!!!! Brian, there has to be a way to adjust that...and don't you dare give up...too beautiful a tank...i know you were excited..but there are options. go back to the sump you built...PIA, yes...but you'll be back in business again. Sell the acrylic one...hang in there. PLEASE.

ah man, sorry to hear about the flood... today is like disaster sunday i best halt what i am doing...

is becuase of your return line being lower than the overflow? if so maybe a temporarily relief is to use a check valve?

Yeah I am thinking I may just get rid of it. I am going on vacation soon and I don't want to worry about the tank the whole time....ugh well see what happens after I cool down a bit.

Sorry to hear about that Brian. I can see how discouraging that could be.

Just curious, do you have syphon breaks on your returns? Makes a big difference on what goes back into your sump when the return is off.

I thought I had my return line that is inside the tank high enough. But I guess I was wrong.

nope. I already promised to todd. so he is coming over to get it today......it is a job and a half to switch them out. if things worked like they were supposed to I would of never switched the sump to begin with...but that is a whole different mess.

do you have a ref ready tank with the normal style return line? if so you can drill a hole in it towards the surface and that would break the siphon be careful where you drill it though obviously water would come out of it when the return pump is on i am sure somewhere on rc you could see how people do it

while Todd is there, maybe you guys can come up with a way to prevent further flooding. wish i had taken the time to check out the overflow box..

I have a couple ideas..but I'm sure Brian has thought of them already..with a sump system under the display,back flow is a nightmare we all think about lol

tell me about it. when the hawkfish clogged up the drain to the 90g...the overflow went through the living room ceiling...and in the process of trying to get buckets down there, i slipped and fell down the stairs. oh, the price we pay for our hobby....
