when i started my aquarium i built a wooden stand with a sheet of plywood on top.there were gaps when i placed my aquarium on it so i put a piece of foam underneath it.my aquarium has a plastic frame around the bottom.i have read this is bad.do you think that my tank is doomed to crack.its been like this for 8 months.

I would get some rubbermiad "brute " trash cans and a good pump , pump the water out lift the tank and pull the foam out . It may not crack but personally I couldn;t sleep at night thinking it might. Just think every little sound I hear at night that yIwould normally ignore would wake me with an adrenalin rush and an"OH ----" Not for me

I have heard of alot of people placing foam under the tanks to keep it more level. I would think this would help more than it would hurt......

That is true with a tank without the frame around the bottom ,not so with the framed type it definately can break the bottom even the manufacturer will tell you so.

I would get it out. My brother made this mistake years ago with a 180g. Long story short...he was swimming in his living room for a couple days. It was a disaster.

I think everyones getting confused by the term "plastic frame" Ifs its a glass tank with a "plastic frame" then no big deal....

If its a flat bottom "plastic Frame" then take the foam out.

A picture would help

I am not confused the plastic frame on glass tanks that I have encountered is the only part of the tank that touches the stand. If you put foam under it ,the foam can if thick enough push on the underside of the glass causing it to crack. I have built many systems , I know this for a fact. On a seperate note billford if you look in the photography forum there are step by step instructions on how to post pics . It is easy and it will help alot when asking questions on RC.
Best regards , Lee
