Football Saturday's in da South

I know we are all still reefing but, this time of the year we probably got one eye on the tube as well. So, any thoughts, predictions, disappointments so far??

I will go first.

Pleasantly surprised by Vandy's success, it is good to see them win some on the football field.

Mississippi State is quite embarrassing.

MY Georgia Bulldogs have NO business in the top ten and really appear to be a poorly coached team with minimal talent.

Auburn is a well coached and dangerous team, but they lack the playmakers needed on offense to get over the hump with this spread offense. BUT TUBBS will get em together and get the best out of what he has.

Alabama................uh.... it looks like my DAWGS are next, and when the weakest link on the team is a very expierienced QB, they are scary.

Florida.........I HATE em, but they are very good

LSU .............If you have nothing good to say, nothing so........

anyone else ??

Auburn's defense is one of, if not the, best defense in the nation this year, until midway through the 3rd quater. Their offense needs to get together because they're making the spread look awfully ugly. If the O can get some decent drives together the D won't be so tired by the end of the game. They are probably one of the worst redzone teams in the SEC right now... but each game is looking slightly better. I say, just wait until next year :D
I'm with you on LSU. Great team, but Auburn had 3 scoring opportunities that they should have, at very least, gained 3. 30-26 should have been the score at minimum, if not 38-26... it's a nationally ranked D with a high school rate O at this point. It was a very evenly matched game, so I'm not disappointed with the loss considering their defending national champs.
Overall, the SEC will cannibalize itself once again yet another year...

I will say last night's game was a nail bitter. My hubby and I pulling for seperate teams made more exciting and scary. But my tigers pulled thru at the end. Go LSU!

That my friend, may prove to be the "Quote of the Year"

A lot of really strong teams this year. Four (4) teams in one conference with legitimate shots to win it all

In no specific order we got

Alabama
Florida
LSU
Georgia

Somebody's "O" has got to go !!

My Rebels keep shooting themselves in the foot. Fumble on the 2 yard line at the end of the game... Stupid things gave up the Wake Forest game late, too. We've got Floorida in the swamp next week (on TV). I hope for a decent game, but am a realist. We have a decent record in the swamp, though. Snead (and the team) isn't/aren't completely clicking yet. I love college football:). We do cannibalize each other every year, though...

Yes indeed yesterday was very exciting for the SEC!!! I was very amazed about Bama's performance and am looking forward to see how they will do with Moreno and the Dawgs. Vandy was truely amazing too. I just hated that we had to beat each other up and not the rest of the divisions. Heck Troy held up good against Ohio St (based on spreads). I was at a wedding when LSU and Auburn were clashing and yes it was a nail biter. I just hope that Tommy Tubbs would give Cody a little more time to play and show what he can do.

Wickedreefer, my husband was upset because Tommy did not play Cody on Sat. He wanted to see what he could do against LSU.

I was shocked they didn't play burns at all. I can't see why you would just let talent like that sit on the bench. Todd looked better this weak, but still not all there. The student section had a few choice words when they ran the few QB keepers with Todd... man is he slow sometimes.
Bama's made an amazing recovery. Iron Bowl is looking very close this year.

Yea I was seriously looking forward to see what he got, but Tommy seems to be content with Chris Todd. I believe that the game would have been very interesting with him in the game creating plays. When I found out that there was a decision to which QB to pick I was guessing that Tommy would possibly try a two QB system like Va. Tech for a few games. I just hope he gets to play sometime before this season end. Heck with a little play time experience he may be as diverse in the QB position as, may I say it, Tim Tebow. I just read about Ball St.'s WR Dante Love's accident yesterday. In the second quarter he suffered a serious helmet to helmet injury that lead to him undergo spinal cord surgery. He lead the nation's yard recieving per game. I've been watching this team since this season started and he is a very talented player. I have many teams that I favor outside of the SEC and they are a team to be reckoned with in the MAC. :)

I Called it !!! - Almost, my dogs have NO business even being ranked

NUMEROUS STUPID penalties, a high school "gimmick" to "black out" the Tide and a team that was ill prepared to compete all equal out to a complete and utter Butt-kicking. :mad2:

Congrats to Bama

Yea, it looks like Georgia put more time into "blacking out" Bama than they did actually preparing a game plan... Still, it ended up being only an 11 point game where it was 31-0 at the half. I wouldn't go as far to say they have no business being ranked. If they had even managed a TD or a field goal or 2 in the first half it would have been a completely different game. In the end, there's in a lot[/] of potential in that team if they get focused on the game, and not the fashion.
Bama was extremely prepared for that game, however they sure did lose a lot of steam in that second half.

On the other hand, it looks like Auburn is back where they were at in the beginning of the season. Still no sign of an offense. Todd has more INT than TD's, and averages -1.2 yards per rush... There have been 3 (Like, the number after 2) passing TD's in five games. two of which have been by the same player, Dunn. 5 Rushing TD's in 5 games... that's pathetic for Auburn, well, for any team really.
Defense is #5 in the country for points allowed (10.6) and something like 4/50-something on third down conversions allowed. That's just insane. I just don't see how you're forcing a punt 9/10 3rd downs and you still just barely squeak by with a W.

The0wn4g3 - thanks for the kind words on GA's potential, I saw them play in a couple earlier games this year and I feel the coaching staff has let off the gas pedal over there. Remember they were ranked at "#1" uh.. in the preseason.

Bama is making the state proud, for sure.

Auburn, as you say, "On the other hand" may be really questioning the "Spread" offense. I think they were a lot more effective with "Running Back U" The defense just cant do it for you all the time

Exactly what I'm thinking. I believe Auburn can run the spread, but they aren't using all of their players to the fullest potential. Rumors that I've heard floating around say that Burns doesn't know how to run the offense, and that's why they're playing Todd. Maybe Burns can't run the offense, but I'm sure he knows how to run an option or designed QB rush. Every defense we've played knows Todd can't run (and usually throw...) if his life depended on it. Putting burns in just a few plays each possession would add a threat that the defense would have to account for.
Bama is doing exactly what Auburn isn't, making use of ALL of their players. In their case it's running backs. Between Coffee, Ingram, and Upchurch they have an excellent, quiet varied, running game. in combination with Wilson, it's almost impossible for a defense to plan against such depth. Auburn has Tate, Lester, Davis, and Fannin but it seems like Tate is the only one to ever get the ball... why settle for 1 running back when you have 4 ?! Hell, put Dunn in and try some reverses or flickers like Oregon state did vs USC. When it's unexpected it can work. We need to get people off the bench and into the game.

It's going to be very interesting to see how Auburn performs against Vandy. I keep telling my self "next week they'll come out with a new effective offensive plan" but so far I've been disappointed 4 times... i hope it's not another USF repeat.

If Georgia had played the first half like they did the second, the score would have been reversed.

Wow what a sat! Ole Miss beat FLA. Still in shock! AL beat GA. What a game. My tiger also WON!

Monica

What do you mean still in shock;)? If we'd played 4 extra minutes in the Wake Forest game and 2 extra minutes in the Vandy game, we'd be 5-0:). I wish we could have watched the game. I was told we played a good game. Once they mesh, this team has the potential to do something.

Should be a very interesting week on the local talk-radio shows.

I think Bama played well but parity in the league is making it tough to walk over anyone - Any given Saturday anyone can be beat.

I'm crawling back in my hole... We still make too many stupid mistakes to think we're going beat another big team. 3-3 and still have Al, Ar, AU, UL Monroe, LSU, State. We could go 6-6, although AU is making a lot of stupid mistakes, too:). Once the team gels, we'll be something to watch out for.
