Hey Doug,

I hate to chew up space by posting too many non-reef related photos. But I wanted to get some C&C. The landscape shooters at FM are a little harsh. I posted there too, we'll see.

I went to town to get a haircut and a pair of shoes. Ended up taking the long way home.

Drove over the Cooke City Highway. Took a couple hundred pics. I processed 4.

Are they okay, need cropping, better light?

Anyone elses comments would be appreciated also. And I promise to limit my non-reef stuff.

It looks like you did fine with some less than ideal light. The processing on the 1st and 4th look a little posterized, like may be you pushed a little hard in curves? I love the range of colors in "North of Cody." I hope to do some shooting up in Tahoe next week but that mountain scenery is nothing like what you have.

I guarantee that's better scenery than I'd have if I took the long way back from a haircut. ;)

The landscape forum over at FM, if anything, lacks criticism. Sometimes folks will post, what I believe to be, awful pictures and they'll get 10 pages of "great shot", "beautiful" and "great light."

I posted the same thing over there so it bumped you back up to the 1st page. Whether you get keepers or not, shooting those scenes is important. I rarely do my best work the first time I work with an area. Those shots that you don't share with others helps you understand the subject better so that next time you'll have a more deliberate approach. At least that's what I try to do.

Thanks Doug, I find that FM is a "who you know" site. I'm sure Fred himself could shoot a shot of dog crap and have 10 pages of praise, whereas someone claiming to be a noob gets ripped for a masterpiece.

Of course, they are much more liberal in the wildlife section.

Your very right about using the first trip to understand the subject. Imagine these shots with good lighting. I need plan a trip when that lighting exists, and having analysed these shots I should know exactly when and where to be.

Any time you want to post pictures of one of my favorite places on earth... you go right ahead :p Chief Joseph Highway, the road from Cody to the east entrance of YNP, that is a magical landscape... brings back great memories. Have you ever driven out the south fork road from Cody?

I live close as you can see from the map. I've driven every highway, byway, and farm road around there.

:D Hey! I recognize some of that! Little bit different country than what we have on this side (I'm on the east side of the Big Horns ;)), we don't get over to that side of the mountain all that often.

Looks like a great ride home from a haircut.

Photo...or really even Reef sites will have their cliques. People who post in reply too each others threads, it begins with replying too someone and being friendly...you do it enough (and honestly) they will tend too reciprocate in kind.

There are many sites out there, I have never been a member at FM but understand its full of Canon shooters much like Nikonians is mostly nikon shooters...look around and your bound too find what your looking for.

Don't misunderstand, I think FM is a great site. But as you say it has its cliques and characters. I'm just too new to know who to listen to and who to ignore.

Hey Greg, one from Dead Indian Pass.

Wow those are some great shots. I was out there last summer (I think! Time flies so quickly!) Drove the route to Cody from YNP then up into Montana and back again. I got some great pics from our simple point and shoot camera, and even got pics during a disgusting hailstorm that we encountered where the temp went from a hot 80 some degrees to 40 degrees with a few inches of hail on the ground. And I thought the weather in SoFL was crazy...

What a great drive home from a haircut and buying shoes....
