forgspawn vs. pepperment shrimp

hey all, last night I went to look at my tank, and saw something unusual. My pepperment shrimp was going to town on my frogspawn. The frogspawn was all closed up and the shrimp was just ripping the heck out of it. little bits of frogspawn were floating around the tank. I shoooed the shrimp away, and after a couple hours the frogspawn reopened, but is this normal? what should I do? I don't want to get rid of either. I really like my frogspawn, and I had aiptasia until I got that shrimp.

any ideas?

I don't have a answer for you but I was excited when I saw that you live in Shawnee, I live in De Soto, I've been looking for reefers who live close and finally found one!

Are you positive they are peps and not camels?
Mine never bothered my LPS or any other corals.
I agree that they might be camels. They look like peps, but are not reef safe. I have 3 peps and have never had a problem with them picking at coral

I have actually seen the same thing recently in a friends tank.... dont know how to take care of the problem but i just thought i would tell you that your not alone.

I think some of the peppermints are just crazy. I have gotten them from two different suppliers in the past. The first ones never bothered anything in the tank.. but I swear the second ones (from a different supplier) were the peppermint shrimp from hell... they attacked and killed my frogspawn as well as several zoas... needless to say those shrimp are long gone! (and nope.. they weren't camel shrimp)

I took a peppermint out of my tank because he was tearing up some Trumpet Coral heads. I lost 2 or 3 heads because of that guy. I took him out and they were fine after that.

My little brother hand one peppermint shrimp go completely insane and start ripping off chunks of his frogspawn too!

Mine on the other hand was a model citizen and ate all my aiptasia and never bothered anything else. My thermostat failed and he died in the heat wave of 2008 :(

Never had a problem with my pep's and frogspawn or any other corals i have. They will take food away from your nem's ime, but with a clown, that won't happen, and cleaner's do that worst imo.

well, everything was fine last night. I will keep an eye out. i might have to do me some shrimp catching if it continues
