Foscam FI9826PB or Samsung SmartCam HD Pro

Both are around the same price point. Samsung does 1080p while Foscam is 1280 x 960p. Would like to display the image in Fusion and I know I'll have to tweak things a bit to get that done. Pretty sure the stream to Fusion will be a dumbed down resolution as I think it still needs to be in mpeg, but again I'm guessing still here that a HD stream can go outside of Fusion.

Zoom on the Samsung is 4x mobile, 10x web which I'm assuming is digital zoom while Foscam is 3x optical zoom. Foscam can pan/tilt while Samsung does a 128 degree wide angle shot. Both have night vision.

There's also the new Dropcam Pro which is 1080p but the cost is significantly higher and I can't see anything that justifies it for an aquarium purpose.

Anyone have experience with these cameras?

A couple of months back I bought the Foscam. I am no IT guy but I am a little better than average when hooking up electronics. The Foscam says plug and play but it is far from it. After trying both wireless and hard wire installs I had to give up and send it back. It was a very complicated and time consuming process of downloading multiple updates in a certain order and then not having the camera recognize the downloads. I did look into the support forums and many people had the same problems. I finally found a Bell & Howell which is just OK.

Based on your experience and a recommendation from Russ over at the Neptune forum I decided to go with the Samsung. I like higher resolution, it will help with zoom, although I wish it were an optical zoom. Also the Foscam's seem a bit difficult to setup. I'm pretty good with that stuff being in IT but it could lead to problems. Thanks for the input.

For what it’s worth (which I realize is nothing) I’ve been using the Foscam FI9826 for several months without issues. Fortunately mine was up and running within minutes. But now that I’m in the process of installing an Apex unit, you guys are scaring me! My hopes were to eventually display it through Fusion. I’m just tech savvy enough to get myself in trouble, so time will tell.

If you have questions about either.. I would be happy to answer.. I use Samsung cameras for the tanks as they are stationary and I have 1 PTZ Foscam for the dogs and two Foscam outdoor wifi models.

Here are some pictures for your reference.. When I am out of town, I move the camera from the fridge to the center island so it is a bit more sharp.

(sorry.. I haven't figured out how to post pictures in line on this forum)

Have you setup multiple Samsung cameras simultaneously? They sell a security system and I may do something like that if I can integrate them all.
Why'd you go with Samsung if you were using Foscam previously?

I am still using the Foscams and I also have two Samsung cameras running.

The security system is a hard wired setup- I like the ability to move the cameras around if I want to.

One reason why I did not want to use the Samsung Security Setup with the DVR was - Lets say there is a break in at the house and they steal the DVR - they steal the evidence which could be used to prosecute.

On the outdoor wifi cameras - they upload any motion triggers to the cloud. On the Samsung cameras - they have on board memory cards and I can use the application or web to play back footage.

There is also an impulse aspect to the Samsung cameras as they are sold at Costco. New tank.. hey.. I need another camera and woo-hoo... it's on sale.
