found a mantis in my refuge

I have a seperate tank for my refuge and I walked by it a couple weeks ago and was shocked to see a 4 or 5 inch blue-green mantis shrimp in there. It was quite an amazing creature. I've only seen it once since then.

Nice. I love it when I find unexpected stuff wandering around a tank.

Keep me in mind should you ever decide you want to find a new home.

YOU WISH YOU COULD FIND A MANTIS IN YOUR TANK HUHH. OMG i have had to deal with removing 5 mantis from my tbs rock (or should i call it mantis rock). Now i hear more clicking. Those things are cool but i hate them. If there is another i haven't seen him yet, all the other just looked at me through there little holes.

jez greg,
How could you not see a 4" mantis in your refuge. How big is it?Mine did nothing but wreck havoc in my 75 gal tank.

He must have been hiding well because I pulled all the rocks out about 7 weeks ago and installed a DSB and I didn't see him.

I've only seen it twice now since the first sighting. They are sneaky critters.

I want to get him out and put him in a seperate 10g. Any suggestions?

How much rock is in your Fuge? If its not a whole lot I would just use that rock to start your mantis tank.

10 gal tank. If its Mantis only then 10 is fine but if you want to get a little Reefy then I prefer a 15.
HOB filter with Live Rock rubble. I like the Millenium 3000 because it has two chambers and one can be for LR and the other a mini fuge.
Skimmer (optional)
inch or two of sand and live rock. If you are goig reefy with it I would recommend a piece of PVc for a burrow, to ensure it has plenty of cover. To much light can promote algae growth on the mantis itself, and that can prove fatal.

If you need some LR or sand drop me a PM, I may have some extra after setting up a tank this weekend.

my refuge has a DSB, a layer of rock covering the dsb, and then macro on top of that

I've been thinking of taking a 10g into the office and putting the mantis in that. my 10g is currently in use QTing a couple clowfish I got last night.

the millenium 3000 looks like a great idea.
