So after about 2 weeks of hunting i found its hiding hole, and now i want to live catch it. tips and tricks anyone? or should i brute force it and not care if it lives or not?

no not at all, they are just a predator. the live in holes on rock so people tend to get them as hitchhikers and not know much about them. i've had mine for 2 months now and he hasn't eaten even 1 of my CUC. i feed it every other day a tiny cube of shrimp or scallop. there extremely intelligent and fun to watch. mines rather shy but is definately the main attraction of my tank right now

yeah mine has been tiny for 6 months now, and finally has gotten to the point where he is making A LOT of noise, and i am jsut worried. he will probably get moved to a small tank where he will be species only

nope. well if you left him in the freshwater yes, but it should just flush him out of the rock and pretty quickly, probably within 30 secs. have a small container with some SW on hand.

you can most likely sell it to a local reefer for $20 easily if you don't wish to keep it

mantis's have a bad rap. They are probably the most amazing underwater creature I have seen to date.

I freaked out when I had one and gave him away. In hindsight, the dumbest thing I ever did, they are beautiful and amazing creatures.

IMO, if you get one as a hiker, take it out an buy a mini cube for it and just watch it, I guarantee you will be glued to it with him living the life.

well i intend to keep him, for now, its just i want to remove him from the main display, guess i will have to just settle with removing his rock. but what else can i put in there that he will nto consume? and how large do these things get?

They can get big, it depends on the type.

I got mine out pretty easily so if your situations falls in alignment, it may work as well.

He was is in a rock, which I took out to my Q tank and I then took a few air tubes and blew on them into the maze of holes he was in. he FLEW out. basically I had three holes filled with the 3 hoses that I all blew in it the same time.

...may help?

Dont know if it made any difference but I was told to use club soda instead of plain fresh water. So I held the rock over a bucket with a pair of bbq tongs..I mean, imagine if it had crawled UP my arm. Would have crapped my pants. Anyway I doused the rock with club soda and I'm talking in an INSTANT the thing leaped out some crevice and dropped in the bucket. I gave it to my LFS and wished it well.
