FOWLR Suggestions.

Alright guys, I am going to be ordering my new tank shortly but want some more experienced opinions. I am planning on setting my tank up peninsula style due to not wanting it to be dark, I don't want to have to paint the back of the tank.

My LFS has a 72 x 36 x 36 400G tank that I really like. Currently they have about 40 fish -

24 yellow tangs
Orange shoulder tang
Powder blue tang
Scopas tang
2 leopard wrasse
Blue hippo tang
Achilles tang
Yellow Eel?
Various other smaller fish.

It is a regular style with overflows in corners and is setup as a reef but still has plenty of swimming room.

For this tank I plan to have mainly Angelfish and Butterflies. If I put a tang it'll be something like an Aberrant just because they are different.

My question is if given the oppurtunity would I be better off with 72 or 96" of length. If I had more tangs, I would opt for the 8' of length but to keep things reasonable and due to this being a peninsula I don't really want to eat up that large of a space. I even thought maybe extending a little to 7' but the difference in price for 7' to 8' is very minimal. At the end of the day the fact is that I have never had a tank this size or any larger fish and don't want to regret buying a larger tank and eating up too much room or buying a smaller tank and feeling bad about the amount of room the fish have to swim. Rock scape will be two simple pillars and no more in order to keep swimming room maximized.

I recommend the 8ft. Makes a big difference. IMO, I would not do 24 yellow tangs, maybe 3. There are so many other options out there.

I agree, while the amount of fish look good I do not care for that many of the same fish. This is not my stock list if you missed that. I am sure the additional two foot makes a big difference, but I am trying to figure a way to convince myself it is necessary. Is there any reason other than bigger is better that the 8' length would be that important?

Go 8´ and how ezpesive is the eel, if its 1k or more its prolly a golden moray in which case they are very cool, but will eat many other fish and dont get it. Also I suggest a school of convict tangs.

Well in my case I got the 8ft as it was going to be easier for me to get in the tank and clean. If something goes in the back of the tank, I am only 5'8 and I am nose deep trying to get it out. With the 7' tank it was just too high for my liking.
