FoxFace Rabbitfish

Thinking of getting one of these guys for my 6' tank. I'm leary because it will be my first fish that actually requires attention (feeding special stuff). Currently my tank is mostly softies along with 4 clowns, 3 cardinals, 2 damsels, and a Goby - obviously various types of cleanup crew.

What is the feeding schedule for one of these guys? How often? What type? From what I read, they are reef safe so long as they are kept fed. I have some hair algae (not very much) that I'm sure he'll enjoy to munch on.

Any and all info is appreciated. Thanks!

I feed mine mysis and a sheet of seaweed. Feed daily or every other day if I forget. Never had one go after any coral.

I'm pretty sure you just have to buy a nori feeding clip and some seaweed, and you'll be fine. Just constantly replace the nori as it's eaten up and you're good to go. What do you feed your current fish? If it's flake food/pellet, consider mixing in some veggie pellets/flakes, it shouldn't harm any of them.

They are quite similar to tangs. Algae should be plentiful, though they will gladly chow down on meaty foods.

How long does a sheet of seaweed typically last? I know it would vary, but assuming the average sized Foxface.. I just want to make sure I can take care of these guys (I'm a commercial pilot) but my gf handles the tank while I'm gone.

I use a innovative marine Gourmet Grazer and refill it when I see that its empty. start out with 1/4 of a sheet and remove any that hasn't been eaten in 24hr you don't want it rotting in the tank. if its a small amount left in the clip i'll break it up for the other fish to eat. I buy the nori sheets from the grocery store (sushi grade roasted seaweed) to save some $, but be careful when buying nori in grocery stores. Flavored types are sold, such as teriyaki, and you want to avoid these.

I can't get my Foxface to eat the nori/seaweed, whenever I put it in he will not touch it at all. Anyone have a suggestion on how get him to eat the nori/seaweed?

I feed my fish a combination of various Hikari frozen foods and NLS pellets. My Foxface eats everything like a pig. He's always the first and last fish eating. I haven't found a food he dislikes yet. He's a model citizen with my other fish as well.

Did you try and rubber band a strip to a small rock ? Thats how I got mine to eat the first time. Then i moved to a clip.

I would keep trying to get your foxface to take the nori. Since I don't have much algae, I give these to my blenny and my blue spot rabbitfish, they both love them ( so do most of my other fish)
