Frag rack question

What is the white plastic everyone uses for the frags? Is it somethin' for lights. Where can I get this? I'm gonna start workin' on makin' somethin' that can stay in the tank. I seen another member glue a piece to a mag float and I like that idea.

Home Depot is like $2 cheaper on a 2x4 piece of it. If you'd like, Steve, I've got some extra and wouldn't mind making you a frag rack. I bought it to build myself one, actually. :D Just let me know!

I was actually gonna post to see if anyone had any scraps not in use. I just went to home depot and I don't need that large of a piece. Just a 4"x8" piece maybe? Or smaller. Let me know what you have Brandon. I was thinkin of usin' a couple maxi jet clips so the rack would clip on to the tank. I have a couple of those.

Just make sure the rack is going to be able to be moved low enough away from the light. With the rack glued to a mag float you can move the rack around to clean, or raise or lower the frags. here is another shot of mine....

Rev, how did you glue it to the mag float? I think I'd rather go this way for the reason you said to raise and lower frags.

Steve

LOL! All these acans I had before the swap.. :D

Steve as far as gluing the rack down, I just used some of the gel type superglue and lined the edges of the rack and pressed it down on the mag float. Find a way to keep some pressure on it for a good 30 min or so and your ready to go.

I've got 90% of mine left... I'm pretty sure I can spare a 4x8 piece. :D

I just made my rack like two little shelfs. I'm thinking about ordering one from Mag-Racks, and probably will just because I think they look really good. :D In the mean time, my little zip-tied dual shelf should work fine. :)

Brandon

that'll work Brandon. PM me the site for magracks, I might order one too.

**edit**
I found the site. Says they are out of stock for awhile. I'll be cool with a piece of the egg crate. I think the mag float will work fine.

Yeah, it'll definitely work fine. I'll cut ya a piece for when I get your ReefGeek stuff to ya.

I just like the way those mag-racks look and they're not too expensive. :)

If this is the black rack with the square magnets, I haven't had so much luck with it. For one, the magnets are rusting already after a couple of mos. Also, the thing is super easy to flip over. I can't tell you how many times I've had to fish frags out of the sandbed after the rack flipped. They just don't seem very stable.

No, I got them from some place in Iowa I believe. I looked at the pic on the website you cited. It looks like a better design. My magnets are square, and I think the flat round ones would be much more stable (probably wouldn't flip around like the square ones). Also, these look more encased than mine are. My magnets are supposed to be coated, but I don't think they're coated very well or very thickly. The rare earth magnets are so strong that they come together quite easily. When that happens, the coating is easily damaged. At least that's how I think my mags have rusted.

I just purchased a mag rack from e-bay. It looks pretty good and it uses NEODYMIUM Magnets for mounting. From what I have read this type of magnet is safe in the reef aquarium. Does anyone have any experience with these racks sold by Oceanwonders on e-bay. Search "NEODYMIUM MAG RACK" and you will find it!

Once I get mine I can post a review on here to follow up.
