Frag Racks

Can anyone recommend where to get good frag racks? I'd like to create different heights. I understand I can make my own with egg crate, but was wondering if there was a good store bought solution out there.

Egg crate is the way to go if you want to maximize the amount of frags on those racks, plus it's much cheaper.

I like to use the black egg crate, most LFS here carry it now and it looks cleaner andmakes the coral stand out more IMO.

I had some extra black acrylic sitting around so I drilled evenly spaced half in holes, and attached acrylic rods for feet. cost about $6 since I had the acrylic already.....For premade options there is a local guy here who makes them....I believe he ships as well, here are some pics of his stuff, you can find him on facebook under Kaotic Acrylic.

+1 for the home depot trip, its dirt cheap and then just order some good strong magnets for cheap and glue, you can make a big rack for half the price

Check out acrylic creations on Facebook. He is out of butler pa. He made my frag tank and makes different sized frag racks and is affordable.

cut your own if you have a CNC if not see if anyone on CL near you can do it for cheap. that's will fit your space perfectly.

You can buy black Eggcrate from BRS and then by Resin covered Magnates, I saw the thread on here. I made about 25 nice size racks for under a hundred bucks.

After seeing the frag racks buildinganobsession.com created for d2mini I started talking to them about building some racks for me. I also spoke with advancedacrylics.com who built my frag tank and they were able to do the same thing, if not better fitting because of their good questions, for half the cost. I haven't received the racks yet, but will take a picture when I get them.

Mine ain't exactly photogenic, but they are fragagenic. I make mine double layered with zipties. This allows the frags to affix to the eggcrate. Then just cut the zipties and you dont need a bandsaw to cut them apart. I buy magfloat or other algae magnet scrapers on sale and super glue to them.

the light diffusing racks can leach some serious crap. I learned a long time ago to go with acrylic!

good to know. How did you know it was leaching snazzy bad things as opposed to something else. I'm certainly willing to buy the comment and play with more acrylic (now that I have done a bunch more w/ acrylic and made a new one just the other night), but aren't there a dozen other things that could have done it?

Devil's advocate:
-Bad silicone (did that...tank didn't like that)
-Poorly mixed water change (yea did that too...freshwater instead of saltwater...not great idea...vice versa even worse...did that too once)
-add a toxic frag/one that was fragged poorly/improperly/incompatible with other recently fragged frags

What else can we think of that could botch the "EXCITING NEW FRAG RACK" syndrome? I'm thinking what else could we do at the same time as adding a new frag rack that would cause frags to retract or kick the bucket?

The awesome thing about reefcentral is, no matter how dumb your mistake, someone else did it even worse and is willing to share on how NOT to do it again...

thanks for the thoughts
