Frag swap question

This will be my first swap and I would like to know how it works. Do I bring a 10 gallon tank wiith light water so on? or will there be tanks setup for people to just put there frags into?

There are several ways of doing things.

1) If you are like me and only bring stuff to the frag swap that is pre arranged via the fragswapper. I just bring a cooler or styro box with frags packed in plastic bags. The styro box also serves to take home the frags I pick up at the swap.

2) If you are bringing extra frags to sell and would like to show them off, then your best bet is to bring a small tank and light set up to show off your frags. People come with varying levels of fanciness in thier set ups.

i don't think there will be tanks set up for people to put thier frags into. I'll let the organizers of the swap chime in and let you know what will be available.

To add to what Sanjay has said... bringing a small tank to display has become popular mostly due to zoanthid / acan selling I'd say. It is hard to get $50 a polyp (which is ridiculous, but that's another story) when the buyer can't see the colors. I've seen some pretty sweet displays hauled around to the bigger swaps.

In my experience, if you have the normal variety of corals that most people can picture in their heads, you don't need a tank. Nobody needs to see a frag of green slimer, orange monti, pompom xenia, etc. If you are bringing things that aren't all that common, or frags of corals that have multiple colors that can't be easily described, a small tank with appropriate light will help you.

Here is the deal with tanks. When in doubt, set one up!

Ask Dan (rigleautomotive) as he was curious about setting up a tank a few swaps ago. He has seen that setting up a tank is worth while and takes the guess work out for most hobbyists.

More info on tank setups and the location.
We have surveyed the swap location today.

There is plenty of space for setups.

The are for each person wanting to setup can easily setup a 20 gal long tank and have extra space. You could probably even go wild and use something larger for the space or use 2 smaller (less than 20 gals) tanks per location.

We have a limited amount of space for larger setups like Dr. Mac brings to swaps but plenty of room for lots of people!

Each location for tank setup has a sink next to it and power.

Each location is $50 for vendors

non member entrance fees are as follows:
Non-Members - Individual - $15
* Non-Members - Family (same household) - $25
without tank setup

If you are a non member and want a tank setup then add $10 to the above costs.

Please keep in mind that to be a commercial vendor you do not actually have to own a business, but are there to actually make money from the hobby for profit.

People who sell large quantities or carry lots of rarities can be considered vendors. This is at the discretion of the Board of directors as per the bylaws and a vote by the board.

Don't be scared by this, these fees are in place to protect our members and the society as a whole. Those who are considered commercial vendors know they are and are more than willing to pay the fee in most instances.

rick,p mantis is a iron worker not a pet store,so he would just pay 10 if he is not a ncpars member to set up a tank with corals in it and it will be free if he is a current member of ncpars.he can join at the swap and then get the table space for free.and p mantis if you have numerous corals to sell i would suggest setting up a 10 or 20 gallom tank to show your corals.everytime i set up a tank all my corals sold.even the xenia and common stuff.healthy big frags sell.people like to see the stuff and you can bring light ,power heads ect.there is power at the tables.any other questions please feel free to ask.i will be glad to help.thanks Dan

Dan that post was a general post for everyone to benefit from. As I am not as far east as you I don't know all the eastern reefers yet. I know you do alot of running and talking so you get to meet more people than I do.

Thanks for the heads up though.
