Frag Swap Samples

Ok did anyone bring back free samples for the rest of the club that could not make it to Nashville?

Seriously if anyone has frags left that they did not trade or sell in Nashville I might be interested in buying them, I don’t have much to trade with. Actually I don’t have any frags to trade.

You should have come... many sellers (including me) made it worth the ride for the buyers. By 2:30 I had sold about 18 frags, my best and most expensive ones, so then I started selling buy 1 get one free, and sold another 8. By 3:30 I offered buy one get two free! Needless to say I didn't bring any of my frags back with me!

I know that I should have gone to Nashville but as the same story as others I had prior commitments that kept me from making the trip. I was trying all week to figure out a way to make it to the swap all to no avail. Well there is always next year. Glad to hear it was such a great show for you.

Since the MTRC has this swap annually in January, I think WTMRAC should also have an annual frag swap in July or August, so there are two frag swaps per year.

I know there are a lot more than three people in our club who can contribute frags!

How does everyone feel about this? Would you like a Memphis frag swap annually, and would you contribute frags?

Are you experienced with fragging, or would you like fragging to be a theme at a meeting (I know many members have joined since the last frag workshop).

WTRC Frag Swap?

WTRC Frag Swap?

Doris and I were wondering if our club had an annual frag swap. Our tanks are more on the buying frags than selling side but it would be fun.

I think having something in the summer would be a good idea. Maybe by then with luck I could have something to contribute other then being a customer.

Sorry, that last post was from me. That's what I get from using her laptop!

Wow ... I was really getting impressed that Lettie was getting so involved in the hobby.

I think a frag swap would be good. Nashville has an advantage of being in the middle of an area to draw a lot of people. Could we draw enough here do you think?

Did the club there pay for the facility? Did you have to pay in for a spot to sell or a percentage of your sales to help cover the cost of the location? How much work is it really to put something on like that?

Even if we did something more informal and just had a frag swap meeting among ourselves occasionally it would be good.

Now that we're getting so many people, what would REALLY be cool is to host MACNA here.

Cathy, you're thinking Tennessee only... their is life west of the Mississippi River (some would say!). We could draw from Arkansas and Mississippi too! And we could draw some from Nashville no doubt. North Tennessee, perhaps...East Tennessee, doubtful.

I'm sure there are wonderful people in Arkansas and Mississippi. A number of them are involved with WTMRAC and we're happy to have them.

But that's why they've come here. There aren't any active clubs within a reasonable drive to us. There is a Northeast Arkansas club forum started on RC, but they don't have any activity there.

Maybe doing a frag swap would be an opportunity to help clubs in those areas build steam.

I believe there was some talk about one of the St. Louis clubs having a swap sometime, and ETRC usually has one around June in Chattanooga. So there will definitely be some opportunities for those who missed this one. =)

I think a swap in Memphis would be a great idea, it would help bring in some variety from outside the area.

Memphis would also pull from the Missouri Bootheel area, as well. We would just need to publicize it in their LFS. And Cathy, yes they did have to rent the building. They did charge a table rental fee. The money they made on concessions was being donated, but I have forgotten where. It would be a big undertaking. I am sure Turboex, who handled the marketing for this one, and was a member of our club before moving to Nashvegan, would be glad to give us pointers. How about speaking up Barrett and Richard???

we could rent the VFW in collierville for $300, full kitchen rest rooms, lots of tabels & chairs, some of us could sell refreshments out of the kitchin, let me know ill see that its availabel @ the time we need it

I brought back several things>a tiny pink nano mushroom for my 12, an acan, a damicomas, 6 new kinds of zoas, a green slimer, a pink bird's nest. Most of these I got for $5-10. Some in the end 3 for $5. I so love a bargain!!

i hope everyone had a great time! the way we did the food was all proceeds were donated 100% to the vanderbilt childrens hospital. we also paid for everything in full from the clubs funds and relied on the table charges and raffle items to break even. i think a memphis swap would be awesome!!!!! you guys woud really be surprised the distance people will come. we had people from all over tn, the atlanta reef club, new york, alabama, arkansas, missouri, kentucky, i taked with a man from north carolina, and even a couple from KANSAS! also about 90% of the st. louis salt enthusiasts club make the journey. ive come to find out that tn has very active clubs and swaps but most of the other states ive listed above have very little activity. all of them jump at the chance for get togethers and it really improves not only the diversity of frags available but promotes friendships from quite a few different clubs. if you guys seriously want to put something together down there let me know, id love to be involved and can promote it to a ton of people. lets make it happen! talk to everyone soon!<~~~steve

My church would most likely be happy to sponser a frag swap at no cost, especially if we said all of the proceeds went to the St. Jude tank. my mom is an elder at brunswick prespyterian church (my church).

Before you get too excited it is small.... like 1300 sq ft (plus a kitchen.)

This would also be a great way for the St. Jude tank!!
I'm all for it!!

let me know if you are intrested.

I had allot of fun at the swap!!! Thanks everyone!!!

I will try to get some pics after I get through this work weekend, but here is what I picked up.

I may get some different identifications, but I will list them as they were sold. LOL

In my new tank I am going to focus on some of the more exotic and popular frags in prep for the next swap, and in 6 months I've no doubt I could have over 75 frags. I am going to focus on:
ORA Australian delicate staghorn
ORA Miami Orchid acropora
ORA turquoise acropora
ORA rose Acropora millepora (much prettier than the pink millepora)

I'm psyched!

I came home with:

Crayola Table Acro
Superman Monti
Lord of the Rings zoas
Sweet Pink zoas
White w/ purple polyp monti
A few more frags of zoas
