Frag tank inside the Canopy ????

I have a 225 gallon tank with a glass center brace. On the edge of the glass there is a hard plastic strip around the edges. I am wanting to put a small frag tank on top of my tank. It would rest on the hard plastic strips (not the glass). The frag tank dimensions would be something like 12”x24”x4” and only have about 3” of water running through it. I think the weight with the water would be about 40-50lbs. The plan is for the light to shine through this tank growing the frags and the corals in the tank.

My question is has anyone ever done this and will the plastic strips hold the weight of the small frag tank.

I would be more worried about cooking your frags. Depending on the light you have over your tank, they may be too close. All depends on the height of your hood as well. I haven't seen this done, and I am interested as well to see what others say. You may need to add another brace under the frag tank. I am not sure the plastic rim could hold the weight of the frag tank.

Being to close to the light might be an issue. In my case space is going to be limited, my main concern is if the tank bracing can hold another 50 or so lbs on it. I think it would, but has anyone ever tried this before?
