Frag tank, no sump..

Thinking about setting up a 20L frag tank that is stand alone, no sump, not connected to my DT. Bare bottom, egg crate, heater, power head and some live rock and t5 lighting. Thoughts?

Being a 20l how much LR would you add? Curious myself :) I'm looking at a shallow acrylic corner tank for the same thing.

Your plan will work just fine.

Why would you want to add more Liverock? Should be just fine unless you are looking for more overall stability to your system.

I would add maybe 1 big piece or just some rubble.. Should I run a sand bottom or bare? Should I eve bother with an HOB filter?

I would like to know the answer to this too. I have a 25 gallon, with a 10 gallon sump, LEd light, ATO, BRS reactor running carbon, MJ 1200 return pump, skimmer, and one powerhead. I've had to take it down becuiase I am moving, but I think I've over done the equipment like I am inclined to do.

I've never set one of these up, but without GFO, skimmer, carbon dosing, regular water changes, algae-eaters, water flow surges, etc. wouldn't the tank be threatened by algae within a few weeks?

I'm subscribing to learn what experienced frag tankers say.

I have a small frag tank sumpless 48 x 24 x 11, bare bottom with egg crate, two small powerheads and a small skimmer, 5 lbs rubble, and 2 g1 radions, it has been going for about a year. One small damsel. I only do about 5 gl water change about every other month. I grow Duncans, and Sps corals...
