Frag tank progress and coral pics

A thread to show the frag tank I am setting up.

This is the sump and fuge that I have set up.

Sumpandfuge-1.jpg

The fuge will draw water out via a maxi600 or 900 and then drain it back into the sump past the intake for the fuge and past the intake for the skimmer. The heater is between a baffle and the return to the tank is going to be a mag950 which will be here tomorrow. The return will be routed through ¾” pipe and have two return nozzles at opposite ends of the tank pointing away from the overflow which is pictured here.

I have constructed a grate for corals that might demand a bit more light that sits about halfway up in the tank on one of the edges.

The tank will get a 250W MH with a lumenarc reflector. I am not sure if I wanna go magnetic or electronic ballast suggestion and tips please.

Below are some pics of the current frag tank inhabitants.

In the above pics with the rics there is what looks like a mushroom that is porangish and greenish that I am not sure what it is. I have fragged it and that can also be seen in the same pic. It is still rather small.

Green encrusting Gorgonian I am growing out on a plastic QT lid.

You can see that the Zoo’s are growing out on a CD case and the gorgonian as mentioned is growing on a plastic QT lid. The Zoo’s show a straight line down their left side in the picture. This is the last cut I made on Sunday when I fragged them last. It is simple to frag these out on plastic because you cut the mat of the Zoo’s and then slide the razor blade under them along the plastic and there is your frag. No mess with chipping rock and such. I then superglue the mat of the Zoo’s onto rubble rock.

I am hoping to do the same with the gorgonian. It has just covered it rock and has begun to grow onto the QT lid. Once the Zoo’s grew down onto the CD case their growth has been great. I bought this rock about 6 months ago and I have about 8 frags with 5-12 polyps a frag. (I need to start selling things).

Well feel free to comment or question any of my tactics or ideas.

Here is a crap picture of some of the frags. They are in the back and hard to take a picture of.

Are you pushing water up to the fuge from the sump or sucking it into the fuge - i.e. where is the pump located? Any reason you can't just tee off your Mag and send some up to the 'fuge from it?

Water is going up to the fuge from the sump via a maxi 600 or 900. That pump is in the sump. If I could have it would have been a split off of the overflow.

I dont think its GSP. The mat is very thick not like the GSP I have in my tank.

Its encrusting.

They do share the same Kingdom and Phylum, but they seperate at Class and then after that become pretty far removed.

I do not think you will ever find a encrusting photosynthetic gorgonian that is green. They come in various flesh tones. Nothing too exciting.

Different conditions will make the mat grow in different ways. I am 100% positive that it is GSP and not a Gorg :)
We can do a tentacle count and be sure if you want to

Am just going by what I was told when I bought it. I have another GSP which looks very different. The mat on the other is thin like Zoo's and is very thin compared to this one.
