Frag tank setup

A few months down the road im going to be setting up a frag tank. I want to keep it simple and low maintenance. My idea is this.... I have a 1/2" line powered by a mag drive 7. I have it plumbed to my GFO reactor and for my water change. I can run another line to a frag tank. And then have the overflow of my frag tank go back into my sump. Logical reasoning is adding more water volume to my system and being able to just maintain one systems level not two. Would that be fine or do you guys suggest an entirely new system itself.

I have one running off my main system. just make sure to install shut off valve to and from the frag tank just in case something happens. that way you can run them independently if needed.

Obviously there at pluses and minuses to combined and separate systems. 1 system has greater volume and more stability, one set of dosing, one (perhaps complex) set of feeding, one major pump and choreographed system to maximize system turnover.
2 systems have isolation for disease, isolation for problems, less dosing if one is more dependent than others, specific flow control.

My vote...is do it right, keep it in check, dip corals and fish, perform maintenance, and have the largest interconnected system possible with fun toys/recommended tools like controllers and management systems that do the work so you dont have to...im an enthusiast junkie that wants a pristine tank without the work...my apex is a present to myself for christmas. I moved into my house a year ago April so my 75 is still a baby, but darn its blown up in thw last 3 months.

I agree with combining it in to a main Display tank. These corals need to build a immune or keep it going thru their propagations. if they are cut-off from thing they will soon come in contact with then they wont have the anti bodies in their systems to fight these things off. Its easier for them to get use to something if they have been exposed to it before. yes you maybe able to have better looking corals but once exposed to the elements of some buyers tank they may go south quick and no one will know why. I run my frag tank off my 90 gal. it has 20 couple fish 50 couple crabs anenomes corals shrimp snails and **** i only see once in a while, lol If you raise your kid in a bubble I wouldnt suggest you take him out for a walk after he turns 18.
