Fragging Purple Ribbon Gorgonian

Hi, i'd like to frag this coral. I have read that it may not be ok to expose some gorgs to air...

Does anyone know if this is truly the case for this species? It seems like a real project to frag and scrape tissue all underwater.

This is the first time i'll be fragging this species, and tips would be helpful.

Best,

Check the GARF website...I believe they culture/frag this particular species.

Thanks, SDguy, I read it, and followed their instruction... worked very nicely!

Let me know how it goes as time goes on. I have 4 species of gorgs, including the ribbon, that I will eventually want to frag.

Hi Peter. Sure, no problem.

Also, I can't seem to find the info i'm looking for. But, the tip on one of the branches had some problem on it and after a couple of days, it looks like that tip was starting to fall apart. I assume this was tissue damage, and that it was rotting. I just cut the little bit off. The rest looks great. I wonder, though, how to insure this tip not become infected now that i've cut it. Really, I guess i'm not sure to seal it with glue, or leave it be.

thoughts?
thx,
Angela

I just want to note that cutting off the affected area seemed to do well. It healed over within a week and shows no sign of further infection. I used coral clippers to cut off the small tip that was affected. I took no other action (ie, I put no glue on it or anything.)

Some more info for you....of my 4 gorgs, the purple ribbon is the fastest grower by far....be prepared to frag often :D
