Anything I should be doing diffenrenly between the two?

I was thinking as my yuma has a big mouth I will quarter that.

I have a bright green florida that has grown a second mouth so I will just cut that so the two mouths are seperate!

When you guys frag em, I take it you do it out of the water??!

cheers

Kev

Yes, frag outside of the water, they will slime up to protect themselves.

Yuma's should be cut so that each side has an equal amount of foot, rather than mouth.

Oh, cool, cheers for that, I didnt know that!

Does my idea for the florida sound about right, I thought as it has two mouths it will be fine to do it that way??!

Is it a wild Yuma? If so expect to lose about 50-70% of the fragging-JMHO
If it is not and is aqua cultured expect 20% loss-good luck! Yumas are tough no matter what!

heres my opinion ive fragged both..wild an home grown..{yumas}
i never cut in quarters, cuz they heal an grow faster if ya dont..wild or homegrown..an i disagree with the mouth an foot..
if you cut a yuma in half you will see better results..IMO..the foot dosent really matter..if you leave in a high flo erea it will detach an grow another yuma where thw foot remains..but the surival rate disent depend on the foot..

scott.

Hmm, I may just half it then, I dont know if its wild or aquacultured as it came as a hitch hiker on my Live Rock.

I moved it last night and knocked it by mistake, it started emmitting a brown substance from the mouth, any ideas what this is??

Ok, cheers scott.

How much light do yumas require? Its on the same level as my floridas (about half way up under 72watts of PC)

be care full with the yumas.. thier really tempermental, i keep all mine no more than half way up in a 75g with t5s.. i had a green one melt under PCs..just watch them close..

scott

How will I know if they are on the way out then mate? I might chop him tomorrow and leave them lower down!

if it is stressed from being knocked around it could be spitting out zooxanthelle - or it could just be waste being expelled. maybe you scared the crap out of him?

How long has it been in your tank? Yumas (not always) can be tempermental. I'd make sure its settled in, happy, etc first since you don't know how tempermental yet and if you do cut it only do it in half to see how it goes first.

That's just me, though :) Good luck with whatever you decide!!

Hi, sorry been away with work.

My Yuma is about and a bit inches across, looks different to most of the yumas I have seen though in that the knobbly bits are all around the base and they are alot smaller towards the centre as if they are deflated and it has a couple of bigger ones around its mouth, doesnt seem to look like your typical yuma

I've got a rock with about 20 yumas on it and want to get a couple off of the rock to sell as frags. What's the best way to do this?

the safest way ive found is to put in a high flo erea an they will almost detach to get away from the flow..

scott

Herostar your other option would be to break the rock apart.. a hamer and a chisel (or flathead screwdriver in my case) if its a decent size bit.. at least, thats the way to do the least damage to the corals

I'm sort of worried about both of those because there are so many all close together I don't want to do any more damage than I have to... They're beautiful rics too... light blue/purple/pink with a sort of X pattern of white on them, I'll try and snap a pic or two.

ive brokes a rock up with many on it with a flat head screw driver an it was a disaster..ill always use a high flo from now on, unless i can cut the foot with a razor blade....
