Frags or colony have a better survival rate?

I prefer to get home raised or farmed corals or a few reasons

They are healthier then wild colonies. They have had time to get used to the aquarium environment

They are more readily available to us when farmed.

Taking cuttings from a farmed colony does not impact the wild reefs

Wild colonies have a much lower survival rate in home aquaria.

Just my 2 cents

"Generally speaking" home raised frags will have more color compared to wild caught ones not to mention alot cheaper in somecases

Aqua cultured frags are better. Wild colonies are hit and miss.Chances are higher of aefw in colonies, more places to hid.

I think it's more or less fact at this point that frags especially aquarium aquacultured frags are the hardiest. Wild colonies are hit and miss for me. And with the wild colonies you have a much better chance of getting unwanted hitchhikers.

You can also sometimes get the best of both worlds, and get small, home-grown colonies from other aquarists at frag swaps or club events. I recently acquired two small staghorn acro colonies that way--both seem to be doing well (fingers crossed!).
