Freaking out!

Last night i plumbed in a new tank. Not sure what happened, i suspect it was the pvc weld was not completely cured, or the rock i put in the other tank had somthing on it? The tanks started turning really really cloudy. Then all at once ALL of the corals started closing up. Anyway 0 ammonia nitrates and nitrites didnt check cal or alk. This morning it was still hazey, so i took a baster and blew off some gunk on a pinapple brain. The green flaked right off!! I turned off the new pump and pluged the drains of the new tank and ran everything as it originally was. I also put a filter in the main tank to add more filtration and carbon on the main tank. The sump looks crystal clear though. The other bad thing is a must leave for a business trip at noon and wont get back till thursday night..... any ideas what might have happened? i dont have many "expencive" corals, but im worried about loosing the yasha gobies and black ice snowflakes.

Also skimmer is not really going nuts at all. RODI water 29gal display ~15 gal in the sump. Was able to do about 8 gallons of a water change. ran out of salt too >.<

About 18 hours so i asumed rhat wpuld be fine. Went home at lunch still cloudy and nasty looking some of the coral look a bit worse....fingers crossed wont be home till thursday

Father called, tank looks clear corals still look bad, but the water cleared up. Fish look fine still eating. Lost a pep shrimp, and possibly my pineapple brain which I moved to a qt tank before I left. Two more days till I come home, so I feel better knowing the tank at least cleared up. I'm almost positive at this point my rock still had cleaning stuff on it. When I get home I'm pulling the rock and letting everything soak in Di for a bit.

Made it back tonight....Both tanks look clear now, so I am not 100% what happened. Rics still look bad, pinapple brain died, Bubble coral doesn't look great, and I lost a pincushion urchin. The duncans are opening back up as well as the zoas. Fish still look fine. But everything is clear now, still took the rocks that I think were tainted out and will replace them.

So after everything is said and done get things situated, put a bucket underneath untill i get a sump, and start running stuff through. My tank starts to get cloudy again....dumbfounded by whats going on, i start playing with stuff, and get stung by salt, nothing unusuall right? Touch the water a few more times still getting stung...turn off the pump and no more shock....after testing i found had some current running through. Would this make the tank cloudy though? explains the death i had though. this wasnt a little shock either. changed out pump and thinks are running very smoothly now!

No Biggy! Electric and water lol. I dont see any reason it would cause it to be cloudy btw. and usually there is not an actual electric current in the tank until you ground it, aka stand on the floor. so its not as detrimental as you would think.

Wont lie i turned the pump on several times while my hand was in it. Its always fun getting shocked!! Strange things got cloudy. Nothing looked affected after the crash, even with the stray voltage when i hooked the pump back up. Could have been the crushed coral i have in the bucket may have gotten stired up when the return water came in. AH well. Works fine now. Now to get some frags in there!!

Btw, the damsels are great in the tank, Thanks Treefer! Really active....like ADHD active, those things are everywhere!
Also thanks Bently23 for building the frag tank for me. The rimless really looks nice. Plus im not a huge fan of acrylic so all glass was another huge plus. Turned out great!

I Jad the same thing happen to me. I called the company o bought it from and they replaced it(glass holes) it was a sicce pump. Its scary of you think a out it it the amps or volts are too high you could be killed.

I added a gfci outlet and a ground probe in the tank just to be safe. Water and electricity don't mix well when you are the ground

Also with your corals dying
Did you move them or touch them when you felt the shock? I killed a whole monttipora because I touched it when I was having stray voltage and it killed most of it very quickly . I had to frag a little tiny piece that was still alive and toss the rest.

Mine was an old school MJ1200 so i just tossed it. It is deffenetly a bit nerve racking when you never know when somthing will start to leak voltage and really could kill you. This spring i was going to do a bit of wiring, so Ill be looking at this issue. Also add a breaker (I have a few slots open for expansion) and run the bacement Tank/ projector room all on its own line.
I didnt touch any corals when getting zapped i dont think. I still have a huge hunch that i didnt rince the rocks off good enough. The coloring of the "cloudy" water looked almost identical to when i dosed lathanum. As we all know dont rush things. A stupid mistake on my part which i should have known better. on a positive note, both tanks are running really well! My pinapple brain almost died, but is showing signs of rehab. Tenticles are comming out of some of the heads that didnt die off, and some green pigment is starting to come back!!!
