I have a 1/4 horse Pacific Coast Imports chiller that is free to anyone that would like to take a crack at fixing it. It sat all winter unused and when I started it up it worked (output water was 3 degrees cooler than tank water which means it was working fine) and then after about 45 seconds the compressor started slowing down and struggling and then locked up. Fan would continue to run and every 10 seconds or so the compressor would attempt to run, but would only sputter for about 2-3 seconds and then stop and this cycle would repeat itself.
Two years ago I installed a self piercing service port valve because the chiller wasn't cooling very well, I added a little charge and it worked great for two summers. I checked the charge and it appears to still have a sufficient charge so I'm guessing it may just need oil or more likely the compressor is shot and needs replacing. I bought a new chiller so I'm not going to play with this one, but if anyone is interested in giving it a shot it's all yours.
