i have a spare 10gal tank that id like to set-up as a cold marine tank, i can do it all for free for i live close to the see and i plan to get the creature from rock pools? would this work? could i go get a bucket of sand from the water, then go get some large rocks from the sea and finally after all is set-up go and get some creatures? would this work? really all i nead is a filter or daily water changes? what do you think?

It depends on how good or bad the water is. In different parts of the world it can be bad or good water. I would test the sea water before anything.

yea that was stupid of me to say that. lol. I dunno about it. If the water is polluted then coral or fish are not going to survive. its up to you. I would take a shot at it.

You better check with the local authorities on the collection rules.
Plus, tidal pool creatures are not suitable for tanks. The snails you collect from tidal pools will crawl out of your tank since they are used to being out of the water at low tide. Some of the guys here in Sydney have tried it, but found some of the snails on hs kitchen table the next morning.
I wouldn't do it. We are all trying to move away from wild-caught and into aquaculture to minimise impact. If everyone was to collect at free will, then there won't be much left in the ocean. The authorities need that level of control to ensure the environment is protected and at the same time, we can benefit from its protection.

Without getting ethical and trying to answer your question I would not use the water from the tidal pool. Pollution is a factor but mainly what you get with natural sea water is parasites and disease.

Collecting fish from the tidal regions probably wouldn't be a problem as long as it's in line with the law. But as lousit said some of the other creatures may need to be dry sometimes.
