Fresh Request

Attn: All freshwater plant growers. I know very little about freshwater tanks; however, I work with a fellow who is well-versed in freshwater aquaria and has just cycled a new 50 gal tank (kinda shaped like a t.v.) (not long or high). As funding is low for his project, I told him I'd post a request for him. He's looking for your plant trimming/thinnings. I'm guessing you have to prune freshwater plants like saltwater plants to keep them in control. This guy would take them. He's interested in the following:

Micro Sword
Anubias nana
Ozelot Sword
Cryptocoryne, Red
Broad Leaf Ludwigia
Amazon Sword, Regular
Dwarf Sag
Vals and Corkscrew Vals
Cabomba

He said no Anacharis. He also would be looking for any freshwater tank driftwood free or cheap, if anyone has any laying around. I plan on attending the meeting Sunday and can get any of this to him if anyone can help him out, or can pick up local for him.

Thanks.

I have some Hornwort, Wisteria, and maybe some cobomba I can trim. See you at the meeting. Oh I almost forgot I have a sword I can part with.

I told my co-worker about these responses, and he's totally thrilled. He currently has a medium range light, which came with the tank, but he plans on upgrading his lights some in the next weekend or two. The tank he bought is one of the newer tanks with the built-in filter and light features. He also said there a great deal of natural light in the room. I've seen his 10 gal planted betta tank. He'll do well with anything that he's given, I'm sure. Thanks!!!!

I just took clippings and plantlets of micro sword, red crypt, and ludwigia repens to jo-mars the other day. May want to check there to see if he still has any left. I also have corkscrew vals, dwarf sag, cabomba, and anubias nana. I can't make the meeting but maybe we can work something out.

Please ask him to post on our local freshwater site Ohio Valley Aquarists if there is anything he needs.

A special and HUGE thanks to gsergent and spinnnerbayt for remembering to bring me some fresh water plant cuttings/trimmings. My co-worker is sooooooooo pleased. What you provided him filled his tank nicely. Wish I could show you his smiles. THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!!

No problem! I'm glad that they went to someone who will enjoy them. If anyone else ever wants any just let me know and I'll give more out with the next trim.

Guys JMO, but I think we need to keep the two seperate. Freshwater and Saltwater at the same meeting would run into confusion down the road. As most of what we do with our salt tanks will not work for fresh and fresh will not work for salt.

It would eventually get to the point that we would have to divide the demos between fresh and salt water topics and I am not sure it would work.

I don't see a serious problem with it guys. I know a lot of us have both FW and SW and I really cant see why it would be a big deal. It's also a way to get rid of the dreaded salt water fears from those FW people who have never did SW but always wanted to. I know if I would have gone to a meeting to get FW plants or fish and heard all the great things about keeping a reef tank I would have did it way sooner knowing there were this many people to help me out.

I would also think we may be seeing more SW plants brought in as there are many different variety and only a few hobbyists keep them. I have seen some incredible macro tanks before.

Until your club gets up ang going strong, or if you just want to hang out with us :) if you want to promote and trade plants that's OK with me as long as the rest of the council finds no problem with it.

What say you all?

As far as I know I'm not one of the council, but it sounds like a capital idea! And as firefish2020 said it's a good way to get people in to the group.
