Here's why. FW dips give some temporary relief for some similar parasites, like velvet. But the ich parasite is buries under the skin where the dips can't get to it. The low SG of the FW kills by bursting exposed parasites----the ich is protected by the fish.
BTW, the ''stress'' from dipping fish is no big deal. IMO, "stress" has become the most over-used term in our hobby and is often cited as a reason tot to use a QT or to treat a sick fish. Just my 2 cents. But, it still doesn't help with ich.
