If you have some prunings available, I would love to purchase a few!! I just cleaned out some old plants that were covered in algae and made room for a bunch more. Thanks!
I can't remember it has been awhile since I did Discus. We use to mix some kind of black stuff in the substrate and dosed something for sword plants and other types. Nook, you doing that or just plugging them in?
I just went with a fine river gravel this time around. I have used Fluorite in the past and one time mixed cat litter with peat or potting soil and some other stuff. I just wanted to keep it simple this time around.
I am building a separate mangrove refugium and I am debating on using generic cat litter. Do you foresee a problem with this? Plain old clay kitty litter and nothing else as an ingredient.
Give me a month and you can have some java fern, red ludwigia, jungle val, corkscrew val, crypt wendtii and java moss for free. I just threw away half a trash bag full a week or so ago, it will take a little bit to fill back in.
Nook- will that be OK to use in a reef refugium as a substrate?
ncox38 I would love all of what you have. I have admired and been longing for a FW plant tank for some time now-about the time you switched over. As of now I do not have one but I would love to pick your brain on the subject. I will PM you my cell # tonight and if you get some time please feel free to call.

Nosepicker and I were up at Aqua World on Gravois last night...their planted tanks looked awesome as usual. They have a huge selection of plants and freshwater fish. Drygoods are insanely expensive though, but for livestock they have a nice selection.
