frogfish tankmates

I am planning to setup a 20g long frogfish tank with different kinds of macro algaes instead of corals, and I was wondering if there were any kinds of fish I could keep with the frogfish? I was thinking something along the lines of a leaf scorpionfish or a dwarf lion...

You have a variety of options, but you'll want to make sure it's something that can't fit into the fish's mouth (which is really quite large). I would think you'd be fine adding another type of scorpionfish/frogfish. I would also look into maybe a snowflake moray eel (although they do get about 30" they normally don't need much swimming room), sixline wrasse, Hawaiian white spotted puffer, Valentini Toby, Falco's hawkfish, dusky jawfish, harlequin bass, and many others. Again, as long as they aren't small enough to fit in the frogfish's mouth.

It actually goes beyond what can fit in its mouth, I had a frogfish that ate something that obviously didnt fit into its mouth. They will try to eat things that are the same size as it. Really frogfish should be kept by themselves, or as a pair.

Well, if you want to keep frogfish you can't get the wrasse either. Long or slender fish give the impression of being small. They will attempt to eat that as well... The puffer might pick on him, and same with Angels if you choose to go that route as well... Tangs would be fine, as well as eels. If you get 2, make sure they are a mated pair (females are normally bigger than the male with more color). I think that is it, just make sure the fish looks big, I mean big. Because like DFLAD stated, they will attempt to eat anything close to what may fit in their mouth.

Frogfish are willing and able to eat lionfish, as long as the size is right.
You want to consider the size of the frogfish when it is full grown. Think about what can fit in its mouth at that point. Now double that (because everyone underestimates how much a frogfish can expand that mouth). That's the size you can keep. You'll find that anything you can safely keep with a frogfish long term, isn't going to fit in a 20g.

From my experience frogfish and certain scorpionfish don't mix well at all. One of my rhinopias has killed 3 frogfish in the last 5 months. The frogfish for some reason always want to sit on top of the scorpions. After the frogs pester it too much they end up being stung. My current frogfish has a 37 gallon cube-ish tank all to itself.
