frogspawn bacterial infection

Hi Everyone,

I recently fragged my frogspawn coral and because my lack of knowledge I did not dip my coral afterwards and I have been advised it will probably end up with an bacterial infection. I have ordered some lugol's iodine solution and I will dip when I receive it (probably too late), but what signs should I be looking out for so i can be ready if it does show signs of disease.

At the moment both frags are looking great, fully extended, good colour, generally retracts at night but as soon as my light comes out it pops right out, so looking good, but I know that could change quickly, any advice would be welcome.

Thanks Ian

Dipping after fragging is dramatically overrated, and imo stresses corals out since they're not fans of even short term iodine poisoning. I haven't dipped any fragged LPS in over 6 years... 100% survival rate, including some pieces that were bandsaw cut on 3 sides. I'm not saying don't dip if you feel like it, just that anyone saying you must dip is at best incorrect and I've seen way too much of that bad advice on this forum lately being passed off as facts.

What's important after fragging LPS is water movement. They need flow and good water movement to heal and prevent them from getting infections, so put them in an area that gets decent flow with lower light and you'll rarely if ever have any issues. Avoid putting new frags under high light as well. Pick a spot on the sandbed that gets good water movement and you should be good :)

Iodine dipping is not bad advice and it wasn't said he MUST dip them. You're certainly entitled to your opinion of not to iodine dip corals after fragging and I respect that.

I"ve used iodine dips after fragging for many years and I know many more people that do it as well than those who don't. We all iodine dip for the same reasons, promote healing and prevent bacterial infection.

This most certainly is not bad advice as you so eloquently put it.
