Frogspawn... not growing??

morning...newbie here.. 75 gallon..no sump...as far as I can tell no phosphates or nitrates in tank....running skimmer and just started running activated carbon in my reactor... tank has been setup about 10 months now.. I have had a single head of frogspawn roughly 8 months now.... It is still a single head.. It looks plenty healthy.. I'm just wondering, shouldn't I have seen another head or two in 8 months time? I don't even see any feeding tenticals extend during day or night.. I do try to feed it mysis shrimp a couple days per week... it looks very healthy... its in a low flow area of the tank.... LED lighting... I run about 85% blue and 55-60% whites... blues are on for 10 hrs day and whites are on for 6 hrs per day...thanks much.

let me try this

let me try this

the trumpet coral towards the right hand side has grown from 3 heads to roughly 7 heads in six months time...frogspawn is same size... these are the leds I'm running... I will try to post the Ebay link.

I am also running two Jebao PP8's... running directly across from each other..thanks for the help

this is with the lights

this is with the lights

I also added a bubbletip aneome last month..he split last week...both halfs are underneath the liverock... not sure why they are not coming out more into the light.... the zoa colonies have just started to spread... and I have one monti sps that someone gave me for free because it was almost dead... this was six months ago and he has doubled in size so far... it seems the two corals that are not growing are my frogspawn and my yellow polyps... This is only blues...the whites wont kick in for another hour or so..

Ok, 85% blue and 65% lights seems way too high imo. I'd like to see a picture a couple hours after the whites come on. If it's not fully opening, assuming your other parameters are ok, may be photo-inhibition. However, if your parameters are off, which may also affect the RBTA, may be a combination of the two. Please post your complete list of parameters. I'm not an expert by any stretch but at this point I know enough that the folks who are, are going to ask for the complete list.

Temp=80
nitrates=0
phosphates=0
salinty 1.26
calcium=400
dka=9

this is with whites

Ok. I would turn the temp down to 78. It makes a difference. What is your pH? How do you keep your nitrates and phos. At 0?

You can't have 0 nitrates and 0 phosphates and have frogspawn. Here is mine at 4ppm Nitrates and I am not sure about Phosphates other than it is not 0

might be my test kit is wrong..or maybe my skimmer is running too good? im not really sure...... also, should I turn down my whites? im really not sure what % to run blue and white at. im confused with these chinese LEDS...

If other stuff is growing well, it's unlikely to be nutrients. My parameters are in line with yours - ~0 N, ~0 P, 8 kh

I have the same lights approximately the same distance away (maybe even a bit closer to the water) running blue 50% white 50% and I see excellent frogspawn growth.

Is there too much or too little flow? The polyps should constantly move gently but not get forced.
Are the clowns hosting in it?

I agree with the other poster that suggested turning the temp down - frogspawn is one of the more temp sensitive corals.

i just turned my whites down to about 20-30%(its hard to tell as these lights dont have a numbers on it)..blues are roughly 80-85% still... I do have some small Algae that i fight... im sure thats why im showing 0 nitrates... ... could my whites have been up too high?
Clowns are actually hosting my trumpet(candy cane) corals...LOL... i will try to put the temps back down to 78... i believe flow is good.

It is hard to figure out the power % on LEDS. I have played with 2 different kind of LEDs over 2 years trying to get the % right. In my case I have found most of my stuff did not like the white so I run it very low. Like 50-55% blue and 10% white (at peak). I also added in T5s which kinda took place of the white, I run them 3 hours during mid day. I have a frog spawn though that has been with me through 3 tanks over 9 years. Started with 1 head and is now 50+. it on the far left of my tank towards the bottom.

I also just moved my powerheads a bit... my two pp8s where directly facing each other... I offset them..moved one to the right about 3 inches and the opposite side the other way..this way there not directly hitting each other..hopefully now i get more of a circular flow and hits some dead spots on each end of the tank..

I had similar chinese LED's for a while and anything over 3/10 power, which I equated to as 1/3 total travel distance of the knob, and my frogspawn would tighten up.

In the pictures you provided, it doesn't look like the FS is extending fully, unless it's a short tentacle specimen.

What is the pH? And how do you maintain Alk and Ca?

I have noticed that some frogspawn & hammer corals in my tank stayed the same size for a while. They were healthy they just didn't grow much.It took them close to a year but all of a sudden they started growing really fast putting out new heads monthly, sometimes it just takes them a while to get going
