A couple of weeks ago I bought a small frogspawn frag from my LFS. They said I could detach it from the frag mount, by easily wiggling it back and forth. When I did - the skeleton (?) broke longitudinally in 2, creating in effect 2 frogspawn. I asked the LFS if it would live - they said one would probably live, the other would probable die. Sure enough, a week later I woke up one morning to find the brown slime covering one of them. I pulled it out of the tank and disposed of it. The other side seems to be alive, but has been retracted since day 1.
I am also running PhosGuard for an algae issue that sprung up. It looks like from what I see online that PhosGuard makes frogspawn retract.
My Xenia, green polyp leather, zoas, palys, shrooms, ricordea, suncoral, are/will fully extend. And my Acan frag puffs up nicely as well.
So here are my questions -
Is it retracted because it was hurt, and it's in recovery mode? If so, how long should it take to recover?
Is there something other than PhosGuard I should be running to let it extend?
Where is the correct placement for frogspawn - I've currently got it about half way up in a Nano Cube 28G Intermediate, with slight flow. Is it up too high? Down too low?
Any thoughts on the subject would be greatly appreciated!
