Frogspawn?

Hmmm. I purchased his nice size piece of frogspawn. I thought frogspawn a were suppose to have their tentacles out.

He LFS guy said they will but it needs flow. He didn't have any flow in the display, but he's had these corals for a while. They looked healthy and beautiful. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1417571989.551542.jpg

Might need some time to adjust to your tank. One of mine opened quickly after purchase, the other one took a little bit longer. Give it a little time and it should gradually begin to open up more, and don't overpower it with flow. Looks like it will be a sweet piece!

It is very big (considering he corals I have lol) it's like the size of a broccoli. It has about 11 branches. When I left, 30mntw ago, some of the tentacles were coming out. The lights were off and the moonlights on. I did have it on a side where there's medium/high flow but the higher flow in the tank I believe.

It might be just me, but that doesn't look like a Frogspawn. Maybe a closer picture would help, but it honestly does not look like a Frogspawn. It looks more like Acan or Favia. Hopefully I got it wrong.

That FS' tentacles look longer :O. It's beautiful. Are these hardy or are they delicate creatures. I know they can be picky, but that doesn't necessarily make them hardy or not.

I don't have any experience with this specific type of FS, but based on what I have seen online, they are considered more delicate than their regular cousins. It does look very nice when fully opened.

If mine opens up like this one does, it will be gorgeous! Mines roughly big and has tons of heads. I'm anxious! About how long for them to adjust to the tank?

It depends on the conditions of the tank they came from, if the LFS parameters were close to your parameters and the light was similar, it may only take a few days to a week, if something was very different, like it was with the place where I bought one of my Hammers, it may take up to a month for the coral to fully acclimate to your tank.

Also, and I'm sure you know this, but if you feel that your light is stronger than the one the LFS kept them under, I would hide it somewhere around the sand bed next to some rocks for a few days until it acclimates to the light and then move it to where it should be.

According to the info online(Picture below), this coral family should be in zone 2 of your tank. I really hope it turns out great looking. Once it does, please share some photos and videos of it, if possible.

You are correct. Frogspawns are LPS corals and they are also known as hard corals like the chart above shows. I guess he just posted it under the wrong forum.

I have several heads of them and mine love lots of flow. I have them placed in center of tank. I hand feed once a week. Remember to keep other corals away from them as they can pack a punch.

Mines in the middle too, but I think mine is a short tentacle frogspawn. It's tentacles don't stretch out long. It is consistent though.
