From nano to 240+

I'm new to reef keeping and wanted to know: Would going from a nano reef (20-29 gallons) to a 240+ gallon tank be too far a leap?

I'm not new to aquariums and have kept large freshwater tanks for years. . . so is the leap from a nano reef to large reef going to be too much?

I've been reading a lot on reef keeping, including about a half dozen books and a lot here at RC . . . I think I'm ready to take the proverbial "plunge" into reef keeping (well, to be honest, the fiancee just gave in on letting me start a nano reef, I've been ready to take the pluge for some time).

Sounds all-too-familiar to me...

I had a 45g FO tank and a 5g nano reef running when I decided to combine them into a 125g reef.

Actually, keeping a large reef is easier, but more costly (more salt, more light, etc).

So to answer your Q, NO! It's not too big of a leap IMO.

Well put, bigger tank = bigger cost.:eek1:

HA HA I did the exact opposite going from a 180 and 125 to a small 30 gallon cube........The only draw back to small tanks is that you run out of room real fast, but your wallet stays fatter so I guess thats the trade off....Yes bigger tanks are easier to care for they just cost more money

Completly agree with this thread! More cost, but you have so many options for working with the tank, changing equipment, stocking, growing frags... But it is definitly more expensive!
