frozen food drives skimmer crazy!

Why is it that about 15 minutes after feeding my 90 gal FOWLR frozen brine, mysis, and an algae preparation, the skimmer goes nuts? Is there any way to prevent this? Thanks.

Sure, there's an easy way around that-----Turn off your skimmer for 30 mins or so ;)

Mine doesn't go nuts during feeding (feed similiar frozens). How much are you feeding to the tank?

I use a fork to just throw in the actual brine shrimp. This way all of that cloudy water doesn't get into the tank. My skimmer was starting to fill up fast and I noticed that is when it was happening.

I throw the frozen stuff into a little cup of tank water to seperate the food.

I don't feed that much, maybe the equivalent of 1 1/2 cubes of food. I'm thinking that it may be the filler they use in the algae formula. I will take your advice and melt the brine and mysis in saltwater and then feed with a net. I'll also try it without the algae and see what happens. My only concern is that I'll be going out of town for a week and I'm not sure that my wife will be on top of the skimmer issue. Thanks.

Speaking of going out of town, how do any of your keep your guys fed when you leave?

I no longer have a wife. ;)

Depends on how long you are going out of town.

If it's for 2-4 days, I wouldn't worry about it. If the tank is established enough, and you have algae and a good amount of LR, they will be fine.

Anylonger, and you'll need to enlist a friend to come by and feed for you. I'd stay away from the auto-feeders, my experience with them is that they are more trouble than good
