Frozen foods with "gel binder"

I bought some frozen food today for something new for the fish. Ocean Nutrition Formula One and Prime Reef. Both say formulated with gel binder. I thawed it in some salt water and it didn't come apart at all - just sat in a cube.

Anyone use this type of frozen food? What is the best way to get it into sizes apropriate for the fish? Is it best just to use a brand without the gel binder?

Thanks

Will

yeah i have use with and without gel binder.... did not notice a difference in the fish.. they eat it the same.. lol

i dont like them personally i use one without a gel binder and just thaw it under some water in a small net

i do use the shark formula they make because it stays together though

Yah I bought it before too, just smash it up with the back of a spoon and you're good to go. In the end I ended up dropping it all into a food processor with a bunch of other frozen foods, some raw fish, oysters, clams, muscles, some dry food, and garlic to make my own fish food. Eric Borneman has a great recipe if you're ever up for making your kitchen smell awful. :)

ahaha crimethann as i was reading your post i was thinking hmmm what a good idea...and then i read further and changed my mind lol
ill do it outside if my mom will let me use her blender

Thanks for the replies. I will try to smash it up. I think that I prefer the flakes and frozen mysis shrimp!

Thanks

Trust me - she WILL NOT let you use her blender if you tell her what your intentions are :D
