hello,

i got a d80 and 40mm macro and have practiced a little taking pics. i have been getting halfway decent at taking pics of single bubble tips, imo. refer to first 2 pics.

i am still having serious issues with my full tank shots though. refer to pic below. any tips on how to get the entire tank in focus? is it possible?

Turn off pumps and let the tank settle for a few minutes. Use a tripod. Use a higher number f-stop, (this controls DOF). I'd imagine using a 40mm, you're still pretty close to the tank. Maybe get up to f9 or f11.

Looks like you're off to a good start. As Misled said, selecting the correct f-stop should solve your issue with the full tank shot. With the higher f-number comes a slower shutter speed (or higher ISO, but in this case, I'd keep a low ISO), so a tripod will probably be a necessity. You can do a web search for a "depth of field" calculator, which will help you choose the correct f-stop, but my guess is something around f/8 should give you enough depth of field, but I'm making some assumptions about the size of your tank, distance from what you're shooting, not to mention just WAGging that number in general.
