My fuge has a sand bottom, I have been told for long term success with calerpa, cheato mangroves, ect. you should use mud. Will my system benefit from mud over sand ??

Many people who are using mud do report good growth for marine plants they are keeping. The majority of the macros take their nutrients directly from the water column so to what extent mud in a refugium might help may be hard to determine. For seagrasses and mangroves where atleast some nutrient uptake occurs through the roots. It would likely help quite a bit.

I put some astera snails in my fuge. They have cleaned up about 40% of the out-of-control algea. The sand has detrius and the plants are still covered, but a step in the right direction I hope.
I am still considering going to a mud system, maybe even go witha bigger fuge altogether.
