fuge

I know the more size is better for a fuge.. But i wonder if there is a minimum required size for a fuge (just the refugium) i need for a 75 G so it can control the nitrates ?

Well, it needs to be at least 10" deep, prefered 12", and needs to be big enough for chaeto to grow. I have a 20L tank split up to be my sump and refugium, and my fuge is big enough for my tank. If you're trying to grow massive amounts of pods, you want bigger, but just chaeto does not require a ton of space. I think my fuge might be 8 gallons max.

From what I understand and I am not an expert, the bigger you can go the better it is. Listed below are some pros. HTH

1. Increase water volume
2. Have more room for LS, LR, and Macro
3. Pods will have lots of room to grow

Flow should be 3 to 5 times the total tank. The smaller the sump I would place the flow on the low side.

I agree with him.

Thanks guys. So for my questio, if I use a 20 Gallon, after the space for the pump and skimmer, I might get a max of 7 -8 gallons. Is that enough for the cheato to grow ?

Yes, it will grow in 7-8 gallons of SW.

I do not know if this will help, however this is the sump I made recently. I used Melev's Model J sump as a template. Since the 20 gallon tank is not the same DIMs and what he made my sump did not come out the same. My fuge area will hold about 4.5 gallons of water and works very well. I had a local shop cut all the baffles and the total cost was $40.00 for everything including materials. Anyways, here are some links for information and pictures. I give you an A- on that fuge/sump. That's pretty good for me... I'm a tough grader. You lost points for having the electrical cord to the heater under your lighting. If that light is putting out any heat at all, I'd get the wire out from under it.
