Fungal infection? Angel has a white patch...

This white patch appeared out of nowhere on my angel. The fish's behavior is normal.

I am inclined to call it a fungal infection and am about to go buy some furan 2/antibiotic. What do you think??

IMHO, the pic is inconclusive. Might be the beginnings of a bacterial infection (or some other disease), or it might just be an abrasion/sting. Is he in QT or the DT? How long have you had him?

Sorry about the pic. old camera, LEDs, and a fast moving fish...

I had him for around 2 months now. I saw him at the fish store two weeks before I decided to buy him. Didn't do much for quarantine except a week in prazipro.

He is in the DT right now.

Twice before he had these white dots appear on the tip of his pectoral fins for a couple days before going away. Maybe the white stuff is dead skin and that's just healing, both on his fins and what is on him right now.

Never had trouble with inactivity, feeding, or breathing.

Your thread title mentions fungus. Fungus is rare in fish and is almost always fuzzy or cottony. I wouldn't treat for fungus at this time. Obviously, this will go away or get worse. If it gets worse; he'll need a HT/ QT and medication. I'd sure start doing complete QT regimens with all new fish; nothing can ruin this hobby faster than a preventable parasite outbreak. A QT has many other benefits too.

Well, about it getting better or worse, which is this?

The patch is less white but it's turning reddish. Bacterial?

Whenever a fish gets sick I have a tank with working filter and heater on standby, I just use tank water. Can I use live rock with antibacterial medicine?

For now I'm giving the fish food with seachem focus/metrodonizole.

The white turning red sounds like it could be bacterial. Bacterial infections are very difficult to diagnosis sometimes because it could always be something else. Worse yet, it's hard to know when to pull the trigger on antibiotics because sometimes the problem will just clear up on it's own (like with humans).

So I can only tell you what call I would make in your place. I would QT that angel and begin using antibiotics as a precaution. Furan-2 should get the job done.
